The redevelopment of the Southern Cross Station Precinct delivered not only a major transport interchange for commuter and long-distance trains and buses serving Melbourne’s CBD – but also over $30 million dollars worth of contracts to local businesses.
Leighton Contractors, responsible for the design and construction of the redevelopment, seconded an ICN Consultant to ensure local manufacturers were given the opportunity to bid competitively against overseas contenders for the project work packages.
“We worked closely with ICN throughout the project and as a result the redeveloped station precinct features a significant proportion of locally manufactured products that would otherwise have been sourced from overseas" Andrew McCutchan, Business Development Manager, Leighton Contractors.
