Metropolitan Program

ICN's Metropolitan Program

Melbourne’s focus on planning for the future and its rapidly expanding population is providing many opportunities for local industry to participate in some significant projects. These include construction and redevelopment projects, water infrastructure projects, transport / rail projects and many more.

Victoria has recognised the importance of innovation and global competitiveness to the future of local industry and there are many support services available for businesses as they position themselves for the future. ICN is working hard to assist in the strengthening of the region’s industry base, facilitating import replacement wherever possible and promoting local industry both in Australia and overseas.

Buy Local Campaign

ICN’s Buy Local Campaign is a metropolitan-based initiative that targets Victorian manufacturers at a grass-roots level, with a focus on import replacement. The program aims to encourage local businesses to register with ICN, identify where imported goods can be replaced with local substitutes, advise on opportunities for involvement in major projects and introduce businesses to ‘assistance opportunities’, such as professional services or government grants.

Initiated in 2004, the Buy Local Campaign has proven successful in introducing local SMEs to major projects, in both the private and government sectors. The initiative is a great way for ICN to keep in touch with Victorian industry, with 400 businesses visited every year.
